Online academics require a level of self-direction that not every student is ready for. We do not chase students down. We build the structure around them and expect them to show up inside of it. If a student needs someone standing over them to get work done, Rocktop is not the right environment — yet.

Every student — regardless of their academic track, athletic goals, or future plans — participates in our Personal Development Program covering life readiness, character, and personal direction. We are preparing students for life — for independence, for responsibility, for knowing who they are and what they stand for before the world starts demanding answers.

The student who has real goals and needs real structure to reach them. Whether that goal is a college roster, a career path, financial independence, or simply becoming someone they respect — Rocktop exists to close the gap between where a student is and where they are capable of going.

The student who is in transition. Postgraduates preparing for the next level. Students who found traditional school wasn’t working and online school gave them freedom without foundation. Rocktop was built for the in-between — the student who is capable of more and just needs the right environment to prove it.

Rocktop is open to motivated students in grades 6 through 12 and postgraduate students — including domestic students, student-athletes, and students pursuing academics independently. We do not select based on academic perfection or athletic achievement alone. We select based on fit, readiness, and commitment to our Personal Development Program.

Every student who applies goes through a personal application and interview process. If Rocktop is not the right environment we will say so honestly — and we will help point them toward something that is. No student who goes through our process walks away without a direction.

Residential housing is available for juniors, seniors, and postgraduate students only. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, or any protected class.

A note to families: We review every application individually because every student is different. What we are looking for is not a perfect record — it is self-awareness, honest goals, and the maturity to operate inside a structure that asks something real of them every single day.

Rocktop keeps enrollment small. Seats — especially residential — are limited and filled on a rolling basis.

We do not admit students to fill a roster. We admit students we genuinely believe we can develop. That standard protects everyone including you.

The interview is the most important part of our admissions process. It is where we get past the application and actually meet you.

This is a two-way conversation. We are evaluating whether Rocktop is the right environment for you — and you should be evaluating whether Rocktop is worth your commitment. Come prepared to be honest. Come prepared to ask questions.

What to expect: The interview runs approximately 30 to 45 minutes and is conducted with a member of the Rocktop team. We will go over your academic background, your goals, and what brought you to Rocktop. There are no trick questions. We are simply trying to understand who you are and what you need.

For student-athletes we will also discuss your athletic goals, recruiting timeline, and how our Personal Development Program fits into that picture.

Format: Interviews are available virtually or in person at our New Jersey location. We will confirm the format when scheduling.

Who should be on the call: Students must be present. Parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to join.

No documents are required for the interview. You should have a general sense of your student’s academic standing — GPA, core courses, and grade level. If your student is close to our academic threshold, we may follow up with a transcript request or schedule a second conversation before making a final decision.

We are looking for students who have the maturity to manage both the academic and athletic demands of the program. Sometimes the best outcome of an interview is realizing that Rocktop is one year away — or that another option is a better fit right now. Either way, we are here to help you make the right decision, not just fill a seat.

Rocktop Academy operates on a 180-day academic calendar running September 1 through March 15. The program is divided into three phases designed to build academic foundation, develop core competencies, and prepare students for life beyond the classroom. Postgraduate students begin September 15.

Rocktop Academy is designed for serious, committed student-athletes actively pursuing advancement in their sport at the competitive or elite level. Students must be dedicated to both their academic and athletic development.

Yes. Housing options and program fees will be discussed during the interview process. A full financial breakdown will also be included in your contract so your family has everything in writing before making a decision.

After the interview, we give your family time to discuss whether Rocktop is the right fit. You will have approximately one week to reflect before we follow up. If you would like to move forward, we will send your family a contract outlining the full financial breakdown. From there, we schedule a second conversation to go over the contract, academic expectations, and any remaining questions before enrollment.

The enrollment deposit is split into two parts and is required to reserve your student’s spot in the program. What each portion covers will be outlined in your contract. The remaining program balance is then paid either through monthly payments or in two installments, depending on what works best for your family.

Rocktop Academy maintains limited enrollment to ensure a high-quality experience for every student. If the program is at capacity, qualified applicants will be placed on a waitlist and contacted as space becomes available for the following semester.

Rocktop Academy is a nonprofit organization. Every tuition decision we make is guided by one goal: making sure the right student gets in, regardless of financial circumstance. We would rather work through the numbers with a family than lose a student who belongs here.

This covers full access to Rocktop’s development program, academic oversight, coursework, and student support. Online academic enrollment is coordinated separately through your selected partner school.

Rocktop Academy New Jersey and Rocktop Academy Anywhere are priced separately. The two programs are structured and regulated differently — New Jersey is an in-person program with its own state requirements, while Anywhere is a fully online program registered in Florida — so tuition for each is set independently rather than shared across both.

The honest reality:
Most Rocktop students do not pay full price. Rocktop is a private institution and does not currently receive state or federal funding — every scholarship comes directly from the Rocktop Fund, built specifically to make sure the right student gets in regardless of financial circumstance.

Rocktop offers need-based and merit-based scholarship support to qualifying students through the Rocktop Fund. We do not have a rigid formula. We look at each family’s situation individually and work to find a number that makes Rocktop possible. This is a real conversation with real flexibility, not a checkbox process.

No family should rule themselves out before having the conversation. If you are the right fit for Rocktop, we will do everything we can to make it work.

The Rocktop postgraduate year is a structured year of growth. Every postgraduate student is required to take a Personal Development class, the same program every Rocktop student participates in.

Postgraduate students are encouraged to take dual enrollment or college-level coursework to get ahead academically. Students who need to complete or strengthen high school credits can do that as well. Every academic plan is built around where each student is and where they are going.

Students leave with more maturity, more direction, and a clearer sense of who they are and what they are ready for.

Because most freshmen aren’t ready, they just don’t find out until they’re already there. A PG year at Rocktop fixes that on your terms, not a college’s.

You get a full year to add strength and skill development a 17 or 18 year old body still needs, sharpen your academic foundation, and build the habits (film study, recovery, time management) that separate guys who play early from guys who sit. On the court, you’re playing against older, more physical competition, so college feels like a step down in difficulty instead of a shock.

And with the new NCAA eligibility rule, none of that costs you a season. You show up to college a year more ready, with the same 5 years on the clock.

No. Under the NCAA’s new age-based eligibility rule (effective fall 2026), your 5-year clock starts at full-time college enrollment or the academic year after you turn 19, whichever comes first. A prep or postgraduate year doesn’t start that clock. Enroll before you turn 19 and a Rocktop PG year costs you nothing on eligibility. It just buys you time to develop, raise your academic profile, and get recruited right.

One note: student-athletes enrolling fall 2026 get whichever rule set (old or new) works better for them. Starting fall 2027, everyone’s under the new rule only.

Yes, and it works in your favor two ways.

First, the clock. Division II doesn’t use a continuous clock like D1. You get 10 semesters or 15 quarters to use your 4 seasons, and the clock only moves once you’re enrolled full-time in college. A PG year at Rocktop happens before that enrollment, so it doesn’t touch a single semester. Your scholarship works the same way. It’s awarded at enrollment, so a PG year before that doesn’t cost you a dollar of it. And since D2 lets you stack academic aid on top of athletic aid, coming out of Rocktop academically stronger only grows your total package.

Second, and this is the part most people don’t know: if you didn’t come out of high school academically eligible, Division II gives you a real do-over. D1 caps you at one extra core course after graduation. Division II lets you complete an unlimited number of NCAA-approved core courses after graduation and before you enroll full-time in college, at any school, to get to full qualifier status. A PG year at Rocktop is exactly that window. Kids who fall short on core courses or GPA out of high school can close the gap here instead of losing a year of eligibility or getting stuck as a partial qualifier.

D3 doesn’t offer athletic scholarships, period. Your academic profile is your scholarship. Roughly 80% of D3 athletes receive some form of academic or need-based aid, and at most schools, that money is heaviest for incoming freshmen. Transfer merit aid exists, but it’s thinner almost everywhere since a lot of it is funded specifically to attract new students.

A Rocktop PG year strengthens your academic record while you’re still applying as a freshman, not after you’ve already burned a year somewhere else. The difference between walking in as a polished freshman applicant versus a transfer later can be tens of thousands of dollars over four years.

Like D2, the D3 eligibility clock is semester-based (10 semesters or 15 quarters), and it only starts once you’re enrolled full-time. A PG year before that doesn’t touch it.

Most PG programs develop the athlete. Rocktop develops the person. Every student — no exceptions — completes the same Personal Development Program. Financial literacy. Leadership. Time management. Community service. Self-awareness. You leave with more maturity, more direction, and a clearer picture of who you are and what you are ready for. The college coaches who recruit Rocktop students know the difference the moment they meet one. That is not something you can get from extra reps.

Rocktop Academy actively recruits international students and student-athletes. We understand the unique academic, athletic, and personal challenges that come with pursuing an education in a new country — and we built our program to meet students where they are.
