Rocktop Academy is a nonprofit learning and development organization serving students in grades 6 through 12.

We offer a structured, hybrid learning environment built around three pathways — academic, athletic, and personal development — individually or in combination, depending on what each student needs. But regardless of which pathway brings a student here, one thing remains constant: the Personal Development Program.

Every student at Rocktop participates in this program. It is the heartbeat of our mission — what connects every student, every team, and every classroom under one shared standard. We are not just developing players and students. We are developing people who can manage their money, lead a room, enter the workforce with confidence, serve their community, and move through the world with purpose and character.

Our physical location in New Jersey serves the South Jersey and greater Philadelphia region. We are currently in the process of accreditation, with academic credentials earned through our accredited partner schools. Rocktop provides the structure, the programming, and the accountability to help every student succeed — and every student leaves here ready for what comes next.

The Beginning

Sam Rines spent his life in the business of people. As a teacher in Abington, Pennsylvania, a basketball coach at LaSalle, and the founder of the James Fox Basketball League, he understood something most educators miss — that discipline, character, and the belief in something larger than yourself aren’t byproducts of a good education. They are the education.

Not because he set out to create stars — but because he poured into people, and people rose.

The Next Generation

His son saw the same truth from a different angle. In 2000, he founded Rise Academy — a basketball academy and one of the earliest programs of its kind — built on a single conviction: that the pivotal year in a young person’s life isn’t about what they achieve. It’s about who they become in the process.

What Comes Next

Rocktop Academy exists to complete what both programs started — a school where personal development isn’t a program. It’s the foundation. Where students don’t just earn a diploma, they discover who they are, where they’re going, and what they’re capable of.

Character & Purpose Development We build students from the inside out. Discipline, integrity, and self-awareness are not electives at Rocktop — they are the foundation. Every student leaves with a clearer sense of who they are, what they stand for, and where they are going.

Life Readiness Development School ends. Life does not wait. We prepare students for what comes after — financial literacy, time management, personal responsibility, and the practical skills that independence actually requires.

Community & Service Rocktop students are expected to give back. To their community, to those around them, and to something greater than themselves. We believe purpose-driven people serve others. That belief is built into everything we do.

Worldview & Values Exploration (Optional) We challenge students to think seriously across diverse cultural, philosophical, and religious perspectives. No conclusions are imposed. Students explore, reflect, and arrive at their own convictions.

Academic Excellence (Where Applicable) Students complete fully accredited coursework within a structured environment that demands consistency and measurable progress. We hold students to a standard that prepares them to perform beyond the classroom.

Athletic Development (Where Applicable) We develop athletes beyond the game — preparation, communication, personal brand, and a clear understanding of the recruitment process at every level. Talent opens doors. We build the student capable of walking through them.

Rocktop Academy is a purpose-driven basketball and academic development program designed to prepare student-athletes for success at the collegiate level and beyond. Our offerings include a nationally respected Postgraduate Program, a structured High School Academy, and a results-oriented College Bridge Program tailored for athletes needing academic or athletic resets.

Rooted in discipline, development, and long-term growth, Rocktop Academy creates a focused environment where players can elevate their skills, improve academically, and gain meaningful exposure. Every aspect of the program is intentional — from training and academics to mentorship and life preparation — ensuring that each student is equipped for the next step in their journey.
